Burcak Keskin-Kozat (Stanford University), "The Turkish Summer? : The 2016 Coup Attempt and its Aftermath"
 
This talk aims to contextualize the 2016 coup attempt in relation to the Turkishstate formation, secularism, and neoliberalism. We will also explore its implications for the future of Turkish domestic politics, Turkish-U.S. relations, and the Syrian crisis involving the Islamic State.
 
Burcak Keskin-Kozat is Associate Director of the Abbasi Program in Islamic Studies and the Mediterranean Studies Forum at Stanford. She received her B.A. in Political Science from Bilkent University (Turkey), her M.A. in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago, and Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. Her research interests focus on religion, nationalism, modernization and gender.
