GSB Muslims in Business (MiB) Presents: “Impact of the U.S Elections and the Muslim Experience”

Join us for a discussion led by Dr. Halil Yenigun, a political science and theory scholar and the associate director of the Abbasi Program in Islamic Studies, as we explore complex facets and dynamics of U.S. elections and their far-reaching impacts on Muslim communities both in the United States and globally.

Dr. Halil Yenigün is a political theorist specializing in Islamic studies and an Associate Director at the Abbasi Program in Islamic Studies. With a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia, his dissertation explored the political ontology of Islamic democracy. Dr. Yenigün’s academic journey has included fellowships and teaching roles at institutions such as Stanford University, UC Berkeley, and San Jose State University, with insights into Muslim political thought and Middle Eastern history. He spent a year as a visiting scholar at the American University in Cairo, another year in Berlin as a postdoctoral scholar, and three years as an assistant professor in Turkey. He has contributed to academic journals such as Third World Quarterly and Turkish Studies. Beyond academia, he is actively engaged in civil society, notably with Academics for Peace in Turkey, advocating for human rights and social justice, and he is an occasional commentator on Turkish and American politics in various outlets.
