SGS Summer Film Festival: When Monaliza Smiled

This year, Stanford Global Studies' annual film festival goes virtual. Join us from the comfort of your home as we watch seven films from around the world that focus on the theme “Love in the Time of Cinema.”

The Abbasi Program in Islamic Studies invites you to a screening and discussion of When Monaliza Smiled. Watch the film from home at a time that works for your schedule, then join us on Zoom for a post-screening discussion. RSVP here to receive links to stream the film online through Vimeo and to join the Q&A discussion by Zoom.

When Monaliza Smiled is a Jordanian romantic comedy from director Fadi Haddad that follows an office romance between Monaliza, a young Jordanian woman who doesn't see the point in smiling, and Hamdi, an Egyptian immigrant who offers Monaliza a new perspective on life. Watch the trailer.

Watch the film at home then join us for a conversation with film director Fadi Haddad and Stanford Lecturer Dr. Ramzi Salti at 8:30pm on Wednesday, July 22nd.
