Understanding Militancy and the Politics of Islam: A Roundtable Discussion with Stanford Faculty

Robert Crews (History), Alexander Key (Comparative Literature), Don Emmerson (Southeast Asia Program), Oludamini Ogunnaike (Abbasi Program in Islamic Studies/ Center for African Studies), Ryan Perkins (Stanford University Libraries), and Shirin Sinnar (Stanford Law School) will engage with how the news media is framing the discussions about Islam and Muslim communities in light of the violence and tragedy in Syria, Iraq, Paris, and San Bernadino. Focusing on different contexts, panelists will offer alternative ways of understanding this challenging moment in the U.S. and global affairs.
