Stanford Launches Inaugural Palestinian Studies Postdoctoral Fellowship
The Abbasi Program in Islamic Studies and the Middle Eastern Studies Forum at Stanford Global Studies have announced the launch of the Palestinian Studies Postdoctoral Fellowship for the 2025-26 academic year. This new initiative aims to foster scholarly research and teaching in the field of Palestinian studies, reflecting Stanford’s commitment to exploring diverse global perspectives.
This fellowship offers a two-year term, starting in fall 2025, with the possibility of a third-year extension. The inaugural Fellow will be hosted by one of Stanford’s distinguished academic units: the Department of Anthropology, the Department of History, the Division of Literatures, Cultures, and Languages (DLCL), or the Department of Political Science.
The fellowship seeks applications from scholars whose work contributes significantly to Palestinian studies, encompassing areas such as history, politics, language, culture, and other social scientific dimensions of Palestinian heritage. Fellows will have the unique opportunity to teach one course per year in their host department, ranging from undergraduate to graduate-level offerings. In the event of a third-year extension, they may design and teach a course of their choosing.
In addition to teaching, the Fellow is expected to reside in the Stanford area during their appointment and actively participate in the intellectual and academic programming of their host department, the Abbasi Program, and other related units at Stanford.
Eligibility Requirements
Candidates must have received their PhD by August 31, 2025, and should be no more than three years beyond the completion of their doctoral degree at the start of the fellowship. Scholars from disciplines represented by the hosting units are encouraged to apply.
Application Deadline
The deadline for applications is Friday, January 31, 2025, 11:59 p.m. PST.
