This event celebrates the publication of Stanford University Press’s 200th book in Middle East Studies and highlights the press’s unique strength in the burgeoning field of Gulf Studies.  The event will feature a moderated conversation between SUP’s Middle East Editor, Kate Wahl, and two SUP authors: Farah al-Nakib, author of Kuwait Transformed: A History of Oil and Urban Life, and Todd Reisz, author of Showpiece City: How Architecture Made Dubai.  The conversation will explore the role of university presses in fostering academic communities and critical scholarship, the relationship between urban studies and architecture, and the role of heritage studies in Gulf and Middle East Studies.
